Theories On What Causes Acne

Do you often wonder what causes acne? If, like me, you suffer from regular acne outbreaks, even though you're  a long way  past your teenage years, you've probably spent a considerable amount of time pondering what causes it, and even more time trying to get rid of it. What causes acne is one of those questions people have been trying to answer for a very long time, and although we now have some sound theories on the topic there is no definitive answer to the question.

Attempting to determine what is causing your acne is a good place to start. What causes acne is a hard question to answer with certainty as there can be a number of causes. Most theories on what causes acne focus on the same key areas; dietary habits, skin cleanliness, stress levels, genetics and hormones. It's probable that, in most cases, acne is caused by a combination of some or all of these things.

And so, because there may be several different reasons behind the cause of acne, everyone’s acne is different. I  think my own acne is mostly related to stress and genetics. I often get acne before an important event, or if I’m rundown, and few of the women in my family have had good skin.
I take care of my skin, using natural, gentle skin care products, yet still get outbreaks, though if I don’t take good care of my skin I certainly get a lot more. I also get acne after eating certain foods, namely oranges and hot peppers. There is clearly a hormonal link, and I can guarantee an outbreak around the same time each month.

Having at least some idea of what causes acne for me, it’s a lot easier to avoid it. I know that if I take starflower oil I’ll have clearer skin. In general, adopting a healthier lifestyle seems to help. I do have to accept, because of the factors involved, that a small amount of acne is inevitable.

If you are suffering from severe or even moderate acne, you should visit a dermatologist. A good dermatologist will take the time to go over what causes acne and how to get rid of it. There are also a number of prescription creams and medications that can be used to stop acne. Be warned, however, these medications are not without side effects - you may prefer to use natural remedies
